This is a much better angle. It doesn't look very spacious but not too tight. I wouldn't want to sit back there for too long. Only for short trips for adults.
This guy looks like he has little head or leg room. For a tall guy like me that would be a problem. Sure i would not be in the backseat that much, but if you are going to make a back seat, it would be nice if people could sit in it comfortably.
From that angle, the backseat room doesn't look too good. Six footers will have a problem but I don't see it as big a problem for most people. Being of asian descent, this shouldn't be too bad .
Anyways I don't see myself using the rear seats too much. The camera shot may be a bit deceptive when it comes to the headroom, so I wouldn't completely dismiss it until you test it out personally.
it looks awfully cramped in the back seat. I think the design of the car maybe had to do with this and compromised with the rear space for the passengers. I don't know about you guys but this is really giving me second thoughts on the purchasing or even leasing the CLA now.
On the plus side, since it slopes down in the back and makes it that much harder to fit a rear seat and make it comfortable and spacious enough, that lost space will be made up when it comes to cargo space.
if you look closely at this video you can see the guy awkwardly struggling to get in the back seats and he doesn't even look that tall. And even from the picture you can see how much room there is...none you have to kinda arch forward. This is sad, but still until i get to sit in one personally I'll be in denial for now.
Well, sometimes you have to compromise in life and this is what exactly happened when you want style. Luckily for me I won't be the one sitting in the back seat and my little ones are still in child seats. So the rear seat space issue won't directly affect me for a good while.
There is a minimal difference in the rear for headroom, C: 901 mm headroom, 652 mm legroom; the CLA has more of each: 905 mm headroom and 690 mm legroom. Conclusion: the CLA is better.
In reality this is what happens when you take a hatchback based platform and make it in to a sedan but a good argument could be said about the styling aspect of it as well. It just all comes down to whether or not your willing to make the sacrifice.
Just as a comparison for Canadians: the B 250, built on the same platform as the CLA, has 985 mm headroom (about 3 1/4 inches more than the CLA and 3.5 inches more than the C Class) and 728 mm legroom. The back of the B is a good place to travel, for an adult.
I don't think it is fair to expect B250 series headroom in a the CLA.
The CLA is much lower by design.
If people didn't know any better they would think the B250 is a minivan or SUV. That is until you see one in person and realize its smaller than that. But from photos it looks like a larger car and the CLA looks like a small car. That is because of the shape.
I think that C-pillar gives it away that headroom in the rear wont be the best for a car like this also due to how thick the c-pillar is, we might have problems seeing out of it and checking our blind spots.
That could be a potential issue too where the blind spot can not be seen properly. Did you guys hear anything about this issue on the reviews of the CLA?
How does the blind spot assist work in the CLA? Is it the same system like most where a light would light up in your side mirrors if the sensors in the blind spot detect a vehicle?
That is how the assist works but some systems will go as far as to intervene your steering to steer you back into your lane if it detects a crash is imminent from your blind spot.
Being over 6 feet myself, I couldn't imagine sitting in the back seat. It would feel like a clown car. Neither my legs nor my head would really fit. The shortest always go in the back, but generally I'm not impressed by this.
there are better cars for backseat leg and head room. The CLA is not one of these cars.
