Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche says that the 2nd generation of the CLA could be produced at a Nissan factory in Mexico near Aguascalientes. Production would start in 2018, with a final decision due in early 2014.
The Nissan factory would expand the plant in order to facilitate the extra production. Nissan would also be producing its own 2nd generation CLA competitor in the factory, which would wear an Infiniti badge.
2018 is a long way away, but Mercedes is already thinking that far ahead. It seems like mexico is the place to go to build vehicles these days. I'm sure the US is thrilled about it.
