No, I'm not planning on towing a trailer but I'm a cyclist so I would need a hitch mounted bike rack on the car. I wonder if a receiver hitch can be added or mounted behind the CLA? I would rather not use a roof rack or a trunk mounted rack.

I tried looking before and could find any hitch receiver companies that have anything available for the CLA or one that made it official that they plan to.

Im sure a hitch can be mounted to the underside of the CLA, they always bolt up to existing holes in the vehicles frame.

Also there's a good chance some universal trailer hitch out their will work on our CLA's, until a CLA specific trailer hitch becomes available.

A tow hitch and receiver is not likely to be made for the CLA specifically but who knows those china companies make anything regardless of rules and regulations just for a buck. A bike hitch on the other hand is most likely going to be available but its just too soon for those aftermarket accessories. Just wait it out and see. But usually there are generic kits that csn be bought from your local sport utility store. If your looking for specifics then maybe ask Mercedes for a genuine bike rack. I have yet to see that though.

Yup...

How I see it, even NOW we can get a trailer/bike hitch installed. Just a matter of knowing where on the frame it can be mounted, how far the holes are from eachother, spacing to clear the bumper so you don't have the end of the hitch pressed up on it.

Might be possible that a current C-Class hitch could work.

My concern is with the super aerodynamic undercarriage of the car I'm afraid that there would be covers or shields to smooth out the bottom and there won't be any exposed holes in the frame or sub frame.

I think the overall drag co efficient of the CLA will definitely be affected by this. Don't you have another vehicle that you drive to perform such duties or are you going to be relying on the CLA.

Actually I do have another vehicle I can use to transport my bike as the CLA won't be my only vehicle. I would just like to take it to the trails every once in a while.

Do any of these products help you out? I know you said you don't want a bike rack, but maybe there is something there you can work with.

MERCEDES CLA CLASS BIKE RACKS
Interesting. I wonder how the rack is attached to the car. I would rather use my own existing rack as no part of the rack touches the bike aside from the tires. The bikes I have are pretty expensive so I want to minimize damage.

You need a trailer hitch, trailer hitch bar and then you can slide the bike rack into that and lock it in with a pin and you're done!

Only problem is finding a trailer hitch, once we can find a trailer hitch, we can do just about anything with the CLA.

I know, that's what I said. The problem is I don't know if anyone will make a hitch for the car.
