As far as paying MSRP and being a "moron," please consider MSRP on the base CLA is $2K over invoice. The E class and SLK are closer to $4K.
My wife's pre-order was made with the knowledge that there will be little or no negotiation. We do have the option to look it over and either pass on it, getting our $1K back, or purchase it. With such a relatively low differential, I doubt there will be room for negotiation anywhere stateside. Believe me, the dealers are not going to sell CLAs for the 1% MSRP holdback.
If anyone can be honest and let me know of a MB dealer that sells at invoice, please do so.
