does AMG want another model in the Benz lineup. The two CLA prototypes, one white and one black, in this video let off an interesting whistle at the top end of the power band, either from the turbo or the exhaust.

This is pure speculation but this video could be showing a test mule for another engine, some sort of racing spec CLA or its a Black Series version of the CLA 45 AMG. Could they really crank more power out of that 2L Turbo 4?

Most plausible is its an overboost function.

Also, if you look closely the White CLA has a full roll cage installed...

what do you gguys think?

It would most likely be a black edition of the 45 AMG.

Maybe a bit more power? Lighter weight? A bit more hardcore racecar?
maybe, but that whistle is eerie. I know Ford has been fiddling with an overboost function in the Focus ST, its essentially like hitting the turbo button in Need For Speed.

The CLA doesnt scream race car, besides they already use the C-class in DTM. It still sounds like a turbo 4 going by, but really how much can those AMG guys wring out of the poor thing. Unless thier fidgeting with larger turbos??

Still doesnt explain the whistle :confused:

whats overboost? I've always understood turbos as highly pressurized environments that add additional stress to the engines parts. Wouldnt overboosting the CLA make the degradation worse?

it could even be a modified exhaust so that competitors can't make out the maximum rpms and transmission shift points while the AMG CLA is still being tested. Which is funny because the car is available for sale, why does it still need testing?

i think a modded exhaust can only go so far, and I doubt just an exhaust alone would help it achieve that. it's more so a combo of things under the hood with an improved exhaust system to complement it

about that.....

It's a whistle pipe. Just a piece welded in to hide the engine revs and turb sound from snoops like BMW etc. Just by sound, they can tell max R's and shift points plus when turb spools in and out. I was scared Benz would one day do it and they finally did. Just audio disquise, no worries.

thank someone that commented on the video for mentioning this
