Sure Mercedes has traditionally been for high rollers, but I don't think that making a more affordable model will alienate any current Mercedes fans. The CLA is still nothing compared to a S-series, so it's not like they will feel cheated. Making the CLA may also get some customer loyalty from an earlier age giving Mercedes a larger following in both the short and long term.

From everything I've read about the Mercedes CLA it seems like the car will live up to the Mercedes reputation. I do agree that it could be a disaster if there are major problems with the CLA, but in the end the car should be good quality whether or not it has the Mercedes symbol on it.
