My takeaway from all the reviews about this car is that

1) People in their minds keep on seeing this as a mini-CLS instead of what it really is, a long A-Class.
2) People expect this 4 cylinder AMG engine to be just like the insane (and, frankly, to be phased out) M156 engine that really catapulted AMG into the spotlight against BMW's M division.
3) People seem to think this is either a luxury cruiser a la Lexus (and complain about the ride) or that it is a purpose built track day car a la Ariel Atom (and complain it can't shift smoothly in 1/100th of a second).
4) People can't get over the fact that quantity is more important than quality

My response
1) It's an A-Class!! And Mercedes is more Toyota than Aston Martin. They have always made cheap cars, trucks, semis, and everything else. It's just in the US that they are seen as a purely luxury brand. They aren't. And this is NOT a high end luxury car. It's barely an entry level luxury car.
2) 4 cylinder does NOT equal 8 cylinder
3) It's a mix of both. Nobody complains that the M3 needs to strip down to the chassis to be more track day, or get Infiniti suspension so it can be a moving lounge car.
4) Not everyone expects a Suburban when you pay 50k. Some people want a smaller box that isn't crap. And is it that hard to consider that a decent amount of that 50k is because it went to the lowest Cd of any production car or the engine that has the highest per liter output of ANY production engine in the world? If you want a car that spends most of your 50k on the interior and 50 cents on the engine, go buy the luxury Kia. And if you want your 50k engine and 50k interior, go get the S-Class.

I can understand that there are differences between reviews.

But to pass in " It is magnificent one automobile, I want one ", and of the automobile of the year ex-equo with Porsche Cayman by Motor authorithy in so bad evaluation???

I see only 2 explanations either their car was defective or the assessors are dishonest.

I had try myself the CLA 45 AMG before placing my order and I found that the transmission was very effective in manual mode in upshift and downshit...lightning fast !

I noticed the same defects as most of the testers as delay in start acceleration, height of seats in the back and the brake pedal is too much near that accelerator.

I am really surprise by these 2 so negative reviews!

Coming from an EvoX MR, the twin-clutch transmissions are different that automatics with a manual mode. It takes a bit of getting used to because you really have to treat it like a manual transmission. However, once mine was tuned, the shifts were insane! It will be the same for this car. DCT are the way of the future, anyone that complains about them just isn't comfortable enough using one yet. It's like a manual you don't have to lift between shifts.

Also, this car is more sports-car geared so going into a review talking about a raspy exhaust or red stitched interior, what did they expect? It's a sports car!! Go drive an Evo and talk to me about rough rides and loudness lol

I look forward to trying this car out, I think it's going to be the ultimate choice between extremely fun daily driving (especially for bad weather with 4-matic) and sporty style luxury.

I never listen to car reviewers until I try it. They all have weird chips on their shoulders and always try to have these clever anecdotes why a car isn't good to stretch their writing muscle.

I like the way you think.

My prime issue with the CLA, maybe not even the CLA but Mercedes Benz, is that like you said quantity over quality. I wouldn't have a problem if the CLA was just another car but Mercedes is trading on their quality brand name to move massive quantities of a sub Mercedes quality car. That I am not cool with.

Its like the broke girl waiting for the bus with a Louis V purse. DISCONNECT. Its a race to the bottom for the luxury makers.
