That could be the case but I heard a little different. to avoid lag it is the most important to choose the right size turbo to pair with the engine.

Very true usually with smaller displacement engine they would need to run a high amount of psi to get good power feedback and the turbo is important as well. But a 2.0L? i just hope the engine has enough reinforcing to take all that pressure.
