I am surprised to hear they are going with the "one man, one engine" production on an entry level vehicle. They have this on all the other AMG models.

One person builds the motor by hand.
I like that idea so that the one person who is spending time on building the engine doesn't span off his attention like mass production workers do. that is what I would expect from Mercedes but for a entry level sedan like the CLA consider it a treat.
26.1 psi of boost is no joke. Most engines would explode from that kind of boost. Too bad only the AMG model has that exhaust butterfly valve. Would have been nice ot have on the regular CLA.
That is a whole lot of pressure but most likely considering the size of the turbo it needs that amount of psi to accommodate that kind of power. What is the butterfly valve your talking about?
butterfly valve and turbo lag

the butterfly valve is like a flap in the exhaust system that works in accordance to the revs of the engine, and adjust the sound of the exhaust for ex at low rpms and cruising on the highway it will not have a very loud throaty sound for a pleasant drive, but when you rev the motor on the track or want to feel that kick and excitement feel in the sport mode the valve/ flap raises to give a more throaty sound.
about turbo lag, i went over some reviews and first drives, and they all say that there is almost none or unnoticeable amount of it. this is because the turbo on the cla in general is a twin scroll turbo, which reduces the lag greatly. another thing to keep in my mind that i first assumed was that theyre probably using the same motor as the 250 just strapping on a bigger turbo and more pressure, but the truth it the block might be a 2.0l but its a completely different build for this kind of pressure for a daily driven car.
Thanks for sharing. I wonder if Mercedes' typically conservative 0-60mph times suggests that the CLA 45 will do closer to 4.2 seconds 0-60?
Are you still number one on the list for the CLA45 AMG?

im even more curious about how much performance we can "unlock" with an ECU tune, Mercedes is one of those brands that tends to undertune their cars, leaving power and performance that can be "unlocked"

Without going to a bigger turbo im not sure you can get more power than what they are already getting out of that motor
I don't know that 190 BHP/litre can be called "under-tuned". A Viper with that specific power would have 1500 HP.
It's the most powerful 2.0L 4 cylinder production car right now.

But not the most powerful 2.0L 4 cylinder ever.
I think the 2014 CLA45 AMG is going to be my new car
i think the EPA is floating around somewhere. if you look around some of those reviews of the 45 AMG actually throw up real world mileage numbers.
