Infiniti Pondering Mercedes CLA-Based Crossover

Will be interesting to see how this compact CLA-based crossover goes. I thought if Infiniti was going to make a compact crossover it would use the G37/Q50 chassis, I guess not.

How do you guys feel about an Infiniti using a Mercedes platform? Would this make the CLA seem less of a Mercedes?

Word has it Japanese luxury vehicle manufacturer is working on an entry-level compact crossover based on the Mercedes-Benz MFA platform that underpins the new CLA four-door sedan and the upcoming GLA crossover.

According to Motor Trend, the new Infiniti crossover could be slotted below the EX and hit the market with the QX30 name. In addition, our source claims the new vehicle should draw its looks from the company’s Etherea concept, while production, projected at 60,000 units a year, will take place at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in England.

Rumored to be offered in the United States as well, the future Infiniti QX30 could sport a slightly tweaked version of the CLA’s turbocharged 2.0-liter engine as well. The Nissan division is no stranger to Mercedes-Benz engines, as the European-spec Q50 is powered by a modified turbodiesel 2.1-liter engine found in almost any Stuttgart-developed vehicle.

I think it's a good thing. I always find it interesting when automakers partner up, it usually brings unique vehicles for example, the Toyota and Subaru partnership brought us the FRS/BRZ.

In this case, this deal is more beneficial to Infiniti, but that's fine with me.
I don't really like the look of the Etherea concept. But concept to production do usually see changes to the overall design.

Collaborations between companies are more common these days. Combining artillery with your allies might be a good for both. I think it would open up doors to make more sales and generate more work and revenues for every body. this is what the automotive industry needs.
Yep a safe move indeed. The popular trends lies in smaller cars these days. Just look at the CLA and 2 series.

I think it would benefit Inifniti if they use that as a slogan. Mercedes are known for their strong chassis and being more well built. I don;t think it would take from the CLA at all if anything people would look at the CLA version more luxurious and superior.

This is one of those designs where it should just stay as a concept or maybe it would be better fit for aquatic vehicle for the water :)
The Etherea concept is not that bad I would take that over a Toyota Prius any day.
