It would have been unthinkable just three years ago, but now Mercedes-Benz is the most fuel efficient luxury brand. In 2013, the average CO2 emission for the entire European fleet of Mercedes-Benz cars has dropped to a rather impressive 134 g/km. That is a reduction of 40 percent compared to 1995 00 the largest of any other premium car manufacturer.

Over 100 Benz model have an A or A+ energy efficiency label.

“In 2012 our CO2 fleet output was 140 grammes. We have now undercut this figure by a further 6 grammes. And one thing is certain - we will strive to reduce our CO2 emissions on a continual basis. Ultimately we have set ourselves the ambitious target of achieving an average CO2 fleet output of 125 g CO2/km by 2016”, said Professor Thomas Weber, Daimler Board Member responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.

Yes, in the sense that part of the reason I went from a C63 to the CLA45 was fuel efficiency. No in the sense that I was not specifically looking for a fuel efficient car. I wasn't looking at diesels or hybrids. Nor was I aiming for some specific "must be at least this mpg."
