Mercedes-Benz is mulling over where to produce its next-generation CLA Class, despite the fact that the model has just been introduced onto the market.

The next-generation CLA could be built in Mexico as part of a joint venture with Nissan according to Daimler Chairman Dieter Zetsche. A decision won’t be made until early next year, but if the German automaker does shift its production to Mexico, it would be assembled at a Nissan plant starting in 2018.

According to Zetsche, Nissan is willing to expand the plant for Mercedes assembly in order to build a CLA-based model for its Infiniti luxury brand. The CLA is currently built in Hungary, but the automaker is looking to reduce its exposure to currency fluctuations by increasing production in North America.
