There is no doubt the 1 series is a very nice car..

From a 1.6L 4 cylinder up to the 3.0L straight 6 twin trubo... It comes in many flavors.

How would you compare the BMW to the CLA?

For engine options it is comparable. There was a 3.0L single turbo as well as a twin turbo version.

The 116i, 118i, and 120i use 2.0L 4 cylinder that range from 120hp to 170hp.

The 125i and up is where it starts to get serious with the 3.0L inline 6 engines.

The 128i makes 230hp and 200lbs of torque, the 130i makes 250hp and 230lbs of torque, and the 135i makes 302hp and 300lbs of torque. 135i models use to be twin turbo but are now single.

You could compare them to the engine options on the CLA here

There are diesel models as well (116d, 118d, 120d, 123d, 125d)

I'm not sure in terms of value as we don't know the packages for the CLA yet. I know BMW has many things optional and the pricing scheme is a bit different.
