Mr. Guido Vent in charge of gas engine development on smaller Mercedes vehicles, tells us that there is an unadvertised overboost effect during kickdown with one's foot to the floor, which results in roughly 13 more hp and 15 more lb-ft of torque for brief bursts.

Do you think there is any truth to this? Kickdown with foot to the floor? So I am guessing when you slam it to the ground it raises boost momentarily for more power? Does anything else think that is awesome. :D

That is a nice feature. Kickdown to the floor would mean putting the pedal to the ground??? How brief are these bursts going to be?

The way this feature would work is that at any given moment when the pedal is pressed all the way down to the floor. During that brief moment you would get an addition 13hp and 15lb ft torque to maybe help with a safety maneuver.

It isn't very descriptive but it seems to be a temporary boost of power and torque when enough pressure is applied to the pedal at once.

It is literally what it is stated : OVERBOOST.

More boost pressure is released from the turbochargers into the intake charge providing more power for that moment.

German cars usually have this capability with tunes on different chips, but it seems like they have a slightly different map to run on opening up more horsepower whenever needed. Still need more info on this overboost feature.

Peugeot had exactly the same feature on its 1993 405 T16 AWD road car. 200 HP normally, 220 HP in overboost for up to 45 seconds. But all the 405 T16s were real driver's cars, with manual gearbox only ;)

That is good to know Mike. 45 seconds is more than enough to pass someone :D

Hopefully the CLA system will be in overboost for just as long if not longer.
