Well I've heard the tech is much better in Hybrids. It has to do with the fact that the hybrid can switch between power sources where when you turn off the combustion in a normal car your now dead in the water. Its very difficult to show any efficiency advantages from stop start especially with smaller engines who sit at idle between 500 and 1000 RPMs for the average stoplight time of what under a minute?
Plus in stop and go traffic imagine the wear and tear the starter sees from getting kicked every 40 seconds as you creep your way home...
