Warning Message: "Unable to Reverse... Service Required"???

Ok... I feel like an idiot asking this but... has anyone gotten this message before?

I was just driving and suddenly I felt the car slow down as if it someone slightly applied the break or gears shifted. I looked at the dash and it read something like "Unable to reverse or cannot go in reverse mode, service required". And they were right. I parked. Turned the engine off then back on. Tried to put it in reverse and nothing. Then, after a few hours I restarted and was able to reverse again. This happened to me once before and same thing. I must have cleared something after shutting if off and restarting?

Or... I'm thinking maybe I hit the manual shifters by mistake while driving? Would that do it?

Re-edit: Ok... happened again last night. Pretty sure I didn't touch anything this time. I slowly applied the break before pulling into my driveway and the message came up again. I'm calling on Monday to bring it in. I'd still like to know if anyone has had this problem? Took a photo this time of the error message.

I'm taking it in tomorrow morning to have it checked out. Yup... happened 3 times so far and popped up while I was driving.
So.... I picked up my car today. After showing the tech my photo of the error message and explained to him my story, they said they would run a diagnostic test with the software. While doing that they said they did find something in the "stored memory." Which they cleared. I forget what the message said but the tech. did say it could be related to my problem and "might" have triggered the notice. Why it was stuck in "stored memory" your guess is as good as mine. They also drove my car for 5 miles and seemed to be ok. I'm pretty much the first person they've heard with this kind of situation. Even tho the CLA is new in the US they said it's been in other countries before that and they haven't heard of anything similar with their CLAs either. Overall, since there's no guarantee that "stored memory" was the problem they just told me to keep and eye on it etc. They pretty much did all they could do.

I had the same error last month. I sent the car to Mercedes and they changed speedshift oil and filter. The problem has not been repeated.

Don’t ever buy a Mercedes’ again. Same happened to mine. Reverse not possible. Ran test said it was fine. Now again and now check engine light on. My wife wanted Mercedes’. They are awful cars. Don’t ever buy another one. Just bought this car also. Lexus is the only reliable luxury car.
