Vibration when coming to stop

Hey all,
I finally got the CLA. I've been happy but there is definitive vibration when the car downshifts from 3 to 2 to 1 when coming to a stop. Nobody knows if this is normal or not. Mercedes says it's normal. Also when braking at around 30 mph there is another type of vibration. Also, when in "sport" mode the handling is really jerky. Any thoughts?

Does this occur during downshift or braking? If braking it's probably an issue with the disc or pad, especially if during the entire period. When you say the vibration is during the downshift, do you mean right when the gears change or during the entirety of slowing down? And as the above asked, is it something you feel in the steering wheel or in the car as a whole?

The vibration is from the car as it is downshifting from 3 to 2 to 1 to when I stop. It seems to be during the gear change.I called Mercedes and the rep said, again, because it's a manual in automatic I would feel the vibration. Still unsure. My Mitsubishi Eclipse I had never felt like this. I'm surprised that a Mercedes does not feel smooth. Also what's with the jerky feeling in "Sport" mode? Thanks

vibration as in the same vibration one feels when learning to downshift blip and miss, that rattle your teeth rocking back and forth...

If thats normal... well i don't know what to say about that...

Thats a very nissan answer you got.

Ditto. If it really is the downshift it's kind of hard to tell without being in person. It could be normal (again, this is one of those things that you can spend 1000 words describing and it would take all of one second in person to see). If Mercedes says it is normal why not test drive other cars with paddle shifters and see if it is there? At least then you have more to argue with them about.

like sleepyhead said, if MB is so adamant this standard operating procedures see if you can get your hands on one of their CLA demos and replicate the situation. If it doesnt replicate you win, if it does they win....

Well, I got the brake discs and pads replaced. I no longer have pulsating when braking but I still have that fluttering when coming to a stop. The tech took it for a test drive and it happened 80% of the time. He believes it is normal for this transmission but because the car is so new he has no other comparison. There was no other car on the lot to test drive. If it was "normal", why doesn't it happen 100% of the time? Any thoughts? Does anyone else have this issue on the CLA?

Mine has been perfect so far. I'm not sure what you mean by fluttering, though.

They were just replaced along with pads under warranty.

Just called Mercedes USA and they are escalating this issue. Let's see what they say. I'm just surprised no one else has encountered this issue. Because if it was "normal" everyone on this blog would have encountered this and it would be happening 100% of the time but it only occurs 80% of the time. Thanks for all your input.

Same Problem here!

I bought my CLA 250 a couple of months ago.
I'm having the exact same problem. When I'm breaking and the car is coming to a complete stop i feel a vibration, similar to the vibration felt on hybrid cars when they are turning back on.

Is not a vibration on the pedal but on the car itself.

Have you guys found a solution on how to fix this?

Did you contact the dealer to see what they said? I think it has something to do with the transmission. But I want to know exactly. I don't want them saying it's "normal" because they can't figure it out.

I don't have that problem so no solution is needed for me. I've had mine for about 5 months now with nearly 5000 miles. Maybe you should ask shenandoah1 about it.

I brought it back the other day after they said they would try to have another car available to compare, but they didn't. They set up a case with Mercedes Benz. I have been speaking with Mercedes Benz and they are working with me to see if it is "normal" or not. So far no definitive answers. I will let you know.

I also have had a vibration issue since I got my CLA on March 10. The first time I drove the car on a major highway I noticed vibration between 65-75 mph. My car was in and out of the service department for the first month and they replaced the right rear control arm as well as putting 1 new tire on the car. A tech came out and said "that's how the car feels." I personally don't think the car should vibrate at high speed and it's very noticeable. Anyone else have this issue?
